 Classroom Information

This week (5/5)  our guided reading groups are not meeting due to the reading assessments I'll be giving.  The children are still engaged in the reading activities we normally do during the reading time while I'm giving the assessments.  Please continue to have your child read 20 minutes per night.  S/he can read out of the current guided reading book or another book.

In Math we've started Unit 12, which is a review of the second grade year.  We'll be spending time reviewing the math concepts in the curriculum, as well as reviewing other important concepts according to need.

In Science we're finishing our unit on plants.  The culminating activity will be a crossword puzzle with all of the vocabulary and concepts included on it.  Next week we'll begin a mini unit on fossils.

I felt so proud of the students last week when I gave the LPS Second Grade Writing Assessment.  The children worked so hard on it.  So many of them looked at the goals we had set for their writing and tried to incorporate those into their stories.  No matter what the scores ultimately reveal,  these students tried to do their best work.

The students also had their poetry published in our school newsletter.  A special thank you to Mrs. Merdick for putting that all together.

Thank you for supporting our Fine Arts Festival!  The children looked and sounded fantastic on Friday night!

Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions.
